SOUTH CHARLESTON, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- A mysterious box left in a gas station parking lot ended up closing down a portion of the Kanawha Turnpike on Monday evening -- before ultimately turning out to be nothing.

The suspicious box was found between 5 and 6 p.m. Monday next to a pump at the gas station in the Spring Hill area.

That's when police and a HazMat crew were called to the scene.

Detectives say the reason the box was considered suspicious was because it was noticed after someone pull in, pretended to fill their tank, then took off.

Officers say nothing was found inside the box.
