UPDATE 12/2/13 @ 5:15 p.m.
JACKSON COUNTY, Ohio (WSAZ) -- A homicide investigation is underway after a man's body was found in the bed of a truck last Friday.
Jackson County, Oho Sheriff Tedd Frazier says Lewis Vance, 36, of Jackson, is a person of interest in the case, and being held on an unrelated charge.
Sheriff Frazier says it all started last Friday night when deputies were called to the scene of an accident on Diggs Road in Coal Township.
After investigating, police realized a man had run from one of the vehicles involved in the crash. Police also discovered a body inside the bed of one of the truck's involved in the accident.
Frazier says the body is that of Patrick Morgan, 48, from Albany, Ohio.
According to a preliminary autopsy by the Jackson County Coroner, Morgan was stabbed 25 to 30 times.
Shortly after the crash, police caught a man running on foot just off of Diggs Road. Frazier identified that man as Vance.
Investigators say the actual crime occurred at 1254 South New York Ave., where Morgan had been staying. A murder weapon has been recovered, but police are not saying what it was. The Jackson County Sheriff's Department also isn't saying anything about a possible motive in the case.
Frazier says Vance is being held the Jackson County Correctional Facility on a parole violation in connection with an assault last year.
There is no word on whether Vance will be charged with Morgan's death.
Frazier said the quick arrest and investigative work wouldn't have been possible without the help of multiple police agencies, including Coalton Police and Fire departments, Ohio BCI, Oak Hill Police Department, Wellston Police Department, Jackson Police Department, Jackson County Sheriff's Department, Ohio Highway Patrol, Meigs County Sheriff's Department and the entire Ohio Major Crimes Task Force.
Wellston Police were investigating "a serious crime" on South New York Avenue about 8:30 p.m. Friday.
About the same time, an accident happened near Diggs Road in Coal Township.
Deputies say they found a dead body inside a crashed truck and that a man fled from the crime scene. He was caught and taken to Holzer Medical Center, Jackson, for treatment.
A person of interest is currently incarcerated in the Jackson County Correctional Facility on unrelated charges.
