CHARLESTON, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- It was a rough start to the week for neighbors in the 700-block of Pacific Street after a team of approximately 20 officers stormed into a nearby home.
No arrests were made during the search, but Sgt. Bill Winkler said the investigation is ongoing.
The Metro Drug Unit and the Charleston Police Department teamed up to execute the search warrant about 9 a.m. Monday. Neighbors say at least one armored vehicle showed up for the search.
Police say a pit bull aggressively approached an officer and was shot and killed on the site.
During the search, items were removed from the home but police could not confirm if the items were drugs because of the current investigation.
Many homes on the block had basketball courts and children's toys in the yard, and neighbors say they're disturbed something like this could happen so close to their homes and children.
Neighbor Dustin Clegg awoke to the commotion Monday morning.
"I'm kind of wondering what went on," Clegg said. "And it's a bad situation when you got a lot of kids in the area and stuff, so it's not good."
