UPDATE 11/1/12 @ 5:45 p.m.
ASHLAND, Kentucky (WSAZ) -- The last 48 hours have been something like a country song for Mike Willis. Lost his dog. Lost his truck. And he's worried about losing his job.
“Breaks my heart, really,” Willis said.
It all started with a wreck Wednesday on Roberts Road in Ashland.
“Took the top off the truck, literally,” Willis said. “Liked to give me a haircut!”
Mike made it out alive, and so did his traveling buddy, Bael. But the crash scared Bael so badly, he took off.
“I hope that he don't hold it that I done it on purpose or something,” Willis said. “Dad, you 'bout throwed me through the windshield.”
Since then, Mike's been combing the streets, searching high and low for his best friend.
The two are together 24-7. Bael rides with Mike as he makes cross country trips in his semi.
“He means a lot to me,” Willis said. “I’m worried sick. Even been dreaming about it.”
He's microchipped and has tags with Mike's name and phone number. But, so far no one has seen him.The Boyd County Animal Shelter says mike's done everything right. And that ups Bael's chances of being found.
“I believe that there's hope,” Aimee Dixon said. “There's dogs that have been missing-- that I've known personally through working here-- that's been gone for a month and wind up finding their owner.”
There's even a search online. On the WSAZ Facebook page, more than 600 people have liked, shared, or commented on Bael's story, helping spread the word.
Now, Mike's just hoping one way or another, he finds out what happened to Bael.
“Either way,” Willis said. “I mean, if something happened to him and he's dead... I'd like to know that, you know.”
The accident was reported just before 9:30 a.m. Wednesday. No other vehicles were involved.
Following the crash crews had to off-load the propane the tanker was hauling and then remove the wrecked truck
