HUNTINGTON, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- Before a crowd of more than 1,000 people, 11 local couples hit the dance floor to raise money to help provide quality medical care for the uninsured.
Organizer Ashley Thompson tells WSAZ.com the goal is to raise $20,000 for Ebenezer Medical Outreach.
"This year, more corporate tables were sold than any of the previous years," said Thompson.
This is the third year for the event, where 11 "stars" from around the Tri-State were paired with professional dancers. Friday, the couples performed a routine in one of four categories: foxtrot, swing, salsa and tango at the Big Sandy Superstore Arena.
WSAZ's Sarah Sager performed along side her partner Nathan Hall in the swing category.
Mark Littlejohn, a former Marshall University Track and Field star and current trainer at the YMCA, and dancer Nicole Riedel took home this year's trophy.
“This continues to provide quality care for the uninsured," said Thompson. "As long as the community wants a night filled with fun, the arts, and a healthy lifestyle the event will continue."
Since the dancing extravaganza, Thompson says the organization has received several last minute donations.
