RAVENSWOOD, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- Police say a tire slasher was caught red-handed at an apartment complex parking lot.
Ravenswood Police arrested James Vandergrift after receiving a tip he was slashing tires at Station 2 apartments. When officers arrived, they say Vandergrift took off running and police had to chase him down.
Police Chief Lance Morrison tells WSAZ.com Vandergrift cut a total of nine different car's tires in the parking lot of the apartments with an estimated damage at $2,500.
Witnesses told police they saw Vandergrift slash the tires and he later admitted to cutting them.
"This type of activity will not be tolerated in the City of Ravenswood," Chief Lance Morrison said. "Those responsible for committing these acts, and those associated, will be brought to justice.
"My men have been working diligently on these cases and I am very proud of the work that they are accomplishing," Morrison added.
Officers say Vandergrift was intoxicated and under the influence of narcotics. Vandergrift told police he was cutting tires because he was mad at his girlfriend.
Vandergrift was arrested, charged with destruction of property and taken to South Central Regional Jail. His bond was set at $24,000.bond.
