Tuesday Eve Storm Watch

Storm Watch Tuesday Evening

It’s a big night on the county fair circuit with Demolition Derbies planned for Cottageville (Jackson Jr.) and McArthur (Vinton Jr.) and Motocross in Milton (Cabell). That means the weather is doubly important.

Officially, a Severe Thunderstorm Watch has been issued until 10 pm for areas along and north of I-64. This zone is most favored for evening squalls to be accompanied by gusty winds, hail and lightning.

As of mid afternoon, radar was relatively quiet locally with showers and storms mainly in Northern and Central Ohio, and Indiana.

Current thinking is that a line of thunderstorms forms to our north and west before sunset then arrives after dark in the Ohio Valley before progressing into the Big Sandy and Kanawha Valleys by 10pm.

While most areas will wind up with a gusty hour shower/brief downpour, a few pockets of hail and strong winds are likely.

So keep an eye to the western sky for some neat cloud formations and an ear to the heavens as the sun gets low on the horizon as you listen for the first rolling rumble of thunder.
