UPDATE 9/3/13 @ 12 p.m.
FAYETTE COUNTY, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- The Fayette County Sheriff's Office has released the names of two men who died in a crash on Labor Day.

The crash happened on U.S. 60 near Hico around 2:30 p.m.

The Sheriff's Office says Curtis Ray West, 35, and Randall Wilson, 37, both of Fayetteville, died in the crash.

Daniel Allen Smith, 32, of Fayetteville, was injured in the crash.
Smith was last reported in stable condition at CAMC.

Witnesses told deputies the vehicle was traveling very fast and passing several other vehicles. The driver lost control while trying to get back in the right lane and hit an embankment. The vehicle went airborne, rolled and came to rest on its top in the roadway.

It was unclear who had been driving the vehicle.



UPDATE 9/2/13 @ 8 p.m.
FAYETTE COUNTY, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- The name of a man injured in a crash that killed two people Monday on U.S. 60 near Hico has been released, according to information from the Fayette County Sheriff's Department.

Daniel Allen Smith, 32, of Fayetteville, W.Va., was listed in stable condition at Charleston Area Medical Center. Smith was partially ejected out of the back window of the Pontiac Sunfire.

The names of the two people killed in the crash still have not been released, pending notification of their families. One of them was thrown from the car, and another was trapped inside and had to be freed with the "Jaws of Life."

The crash happened about 2:30 p.m. Monday.

Witnesses told deputies the eastbound vehicle was traveling very fast and passing several other vehicles. The driver lost control while trying to get back in the right lane and struck an embankment. The vehicle went airborne, rolled and came to rest on its top in the roadway.

It was unclear who had been driving the vehicle.

Sheriff Steve Kessler said it also was unclear if drugs or alcohol were involved, "but statements from witnesses at the scene indicate that excessive speed and reckless driving certainly played a role in this collision."
