UPDATE 2/5/13 @ 6:30 p.m.
ROANE COUNTY, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- One mother takes her role as protector seriously. She helped rescue her daughter from a kidnapping.

The daughter is recovering from some minor injuries including bruising on her neck, arms and cheeks, but she is now home and safe.

The 4-mile stretch from Amma to Grannies Creek Road in Roane County was a scary trip for the young woman on Monday afternoon.

“I seen the police go up Grannies Creek very fast. I thought there had been a wreck,” Monty Hall, a neighbor, said.

But police were actually after two accused kidnappers. The victim told police she was at a school bus stop when her ex-boyfriend, Rodney Workman, grabbed her and forced her into the back of a blazer while his friend, Timothy Drake, drove off.

“He told her he was gonna kill her,” West Virginia State Police Sgt. Salley Hatten said.

Workman's ex-girlfriend says he put a gun to her back and threatened to shoot her in the head.

According to the arrest warrant, she pleaded to both men to let her go. When that didn't work, she even tried taking the keys out of the ignition and throwing them out the window. Even that didn't stop them.

Finally, when they reached Grannies Creek Road, her mother came to the rescue.

“She pulled up beside them. She recognized the vehicle, and the ex-girlfriend/victim jumped out of the truck and got into her mother's vehicle,” Hatten said.

“I'm very happy that the girl's OK,” Hall said.

Meanwhile, both men were arrested Monday night in Cledenin. They now face kidnapping charges.

Workman also faces several other charges including domestic assault, domestic battery, wanton endangerment and brandishing.

“I'm very sad to hear of things like this happening right here. I don't know what to make of people nowadays,” Hall said.

Workman and Drake are in the South Central Regional Jail. WSAZ.com put in requests to speak with them, but there has been no response at this time.

WSAZ.com also reached out to the victim and her mother to see if there was anything they'd like to say. There has been no word back from either of them.

ORIGINAL STORY 2/4/13
KANAWHA COUNTY, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- Two men are behind bars in connection with the kidnapping of a woman in Roane County.

State Police say Rodney Workman and Timothy Drake worked together to kidnap Workman's ex-girlfriend near Amma. They say Workman grabbed the woman out of a truck at the Pigeon bus stop and forced her into their vehicle before threatening to kill her.

Workman and Drake took the woman down Big Sandy Road to Granny's Creek Bridge, where police say she was able to escape. They say her mother spotted them while passing in another vehicle and pulled up beside them.

That's when the woman jumped from their vehicle into her mother's, according to police.

Workman is charged with kidnapping, domestic assault, and domestic battery. Drake faces conspiracy to commit kidnapping charges.

Both men were arrested at a home in Clendenin Monday night. State police say they were friends and had been employed together in the past.
