PORTSMOUTH, Ohio (WSAZ) -- The Scioto County Sheriff says two men are under arrest following an attempted break-in at a warehouse and ensuing police chase.
Sheriff Marty Donini says a deputy was dispatched to the Big Sandy warehouse on Saturday to check on a suspicious vehicle.
When the deputy pulled in he observed a truck with the back tag covered up. The Sheriff says the driver and his passenger then immediately took off at a high rate of speed.
The deputy pursued the truck across the bridge into Greenup County where the Greenup County Sheriff's Office was notified to assist in stopping the truck.
Donini says the driver attempted to run over two Greenup County Deputies before losing control in a parking lot. The two men then jumped out and took off on foot.
The driver was quickly caught, while the passenger was later arrested at his girlfriend’s apartment in Wheelersburg.
Joshua A Farmer, 29, of Ironton, is charged with complicity to breaking and entering. Farmer is being held in the Scioto County jail in lieu of $2,500 bail.
The driver, Jason Hatfield, 34, of Lucasville, is charged with attempted vehicular assault on a police officer. Hatfield is being held in the Greenup County Jail until he can return to Ohio to face more charges.
Sheriff Donini says the men admitted during questioning to stealing a tractor from South Webster and a Jeep from a car lot in Ironton. Both vehicles were recovered in Scioto County.
More charges will be presented to a Scioto County Grand Jury.
