LEXINGTON, Ky. (WSAZ) - Lexington Police say a 23-year-old UK student from Ashland was stabbed multiple times early Saturday morning.
First responders say they found Zackary Gibbs, 23, unresponsive on the sidewalk near South Limestone about 1:30 am.
Police say Gibbs was leaving a local tavern when the incident happened. They say he was stabbed five to six times, some of those in the back and once in the chest.
Gibbs’ stepmother told our sister station, WKYT that he had two surgeries Saturday, one of which was heart surgery. She said he is doing really well but is still in serious condition.
Friends and family says Gibbs recently moved to Lexington from Ashland.
A family friend says once Gibbs is released from the hospital, he is expected to return to Ashland to recover there with family.
Lexington Police say do not have any suspects at this time.
