KANAWHA COUNTY, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- Three people are recovering in the hospital after an accident that happened Saturday afternoon.
Sheriff's deputies say a Toyota Corolla hit the back of a box trailer being pulled by a semi-truck.
Diana Robertson, 53, from Elkview was driving the Corolla north on I-79 near Big Chimney.
Robertson and her passengers, Rena Strickland, 71, and James Strickland, 10, were all taken to the hospital with serious injuries, but are expected to be okay.
The driver and passenger in the truck were not injured.
The cause of the accident is still under investigation.
Dispatchers say the lanes re-opened around 5:30 p.m., Saturday.
Kanawha County Dispatchers say it was a two vehicle crash between a car and tractor trailer, ending with the car underneath the semi near Mink Shoals.
Crews are working now to free the people trapped in the vehicle.
There have been injuries reported, but it is unclear at this time how many or to what extent.
Both Northbound lanes and the Mink Shoals entrance ramp will remain closed until crews can clear the scene.
