UPDATE 11/23/10 @ 4:20 p.m.
CHARLESTON, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- A man's devotion to his wife may be one reason for her not serving any more time behind bars. This comes after she shot him in June.
Ironically, the gun Debra Tagnesi used to shoot her husband, Joe Tagnesi, was the one he bought for her own self protection. Five months later at her sentencing, he's still trying to protect her.
"I want to get back together with her. I miss her," Joe said.
Joe Tagnesi has been separated from his wife Debra since June when she shot him outside their home.
"I don't remember how it happened. I'm aware that it did, and I take full responsibility for that," Debra said.
At her sentencing, Debra apologized to her husband of 10 years for the physical and mental wounds she caused him. That apology went even further to include what led her to pull the trigger.
"Everyone has marital problems, and I think that the alcohol just turned me into something that I’m not," she said.
She says her over consumption of alcohol, combined with prescription diet pills, made her "aggressive." Joe takes part responsibility for not helping her through it.
"As long as we've been together, she has never shown anything like this until the diet pills. I love this woman. I love her to death. Forgiven her; yes, I have," Joe said.
He’s forgiving his wife for a violent crime, and promising to stay by her side - for better or for worse.
Debra Tagnesi was sentenced to one year home arrest followed by a year of probation. That will begin once she completes a treatment program in December.
Before living together again, the couple must enter a domestic marriage counseling program.
Police have charged Debra Tagnesi with shooting her husband, Joe Tagnesi.
Debra will be arraigned in Magistrate court Friday morning.
It happened at 403 Mount Shadow Road.
Police told a WSAZ photographer on the scene that a woman shot her husband.
She has been charged with malicious wounding.
The man was taken to the hospital. His condition hasn't been released.
Police aren't releasing the names of the couple involved in the shooting.
