NEW INFO: Baumgardner to Replace Verbage Spence as Cabell Magistrate

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- A familiar face to the Cabell County Courthouse has been appointed to take over for retired magistrate Patty Verbage Spence.

Cabell County Circuit Judge appointed Rondall Baumgardner as Spence's replacement.

Baumgardner will will take over as magistrate starting June 10.

Spence retired at the end of May due to health concerns.

This is the second time Verbage Spence has resigned for health reasons. In March 2008 she resigned, but was then re-elected in November 2008. She was also re-elected again in November 2012.

Baumgarder will serve as magistrate for the remainder of Spence's term or until the next election.

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- Cabell County Magistrate Patty Verbage Spence is resigning at the end of the month due to health reasons.

Chief Circuit Judge Paul Farrell says anyone interested in her position should submit a letter of interest by June 1.

Judge Farrell says the four circuit judges will then meet and select Spence’s replacement, who will serve until the next general election.

This is the second time Verbage Spence has resigned for health reasons. In March 2008 she resigned, but was then re-elected in November 2008. She was also re-elected again in November 2012.
