FAYETTE COUNTY, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- A veteran's cemetery in Fayette County that became the victim of theft is getting a helping hand.
Fayette County Deputies say Erin Pack was arrested on Tuesday after he damaged a statue at the veteran's cemetery in Ansted back in March.
Deputies say Pack was trying to steal metal from the statue to sell. Pack broke the gun on the statue causing it to lean, according to investigators.
The Fayette County Sheriff's Department and the Sheriff's Association gave the cemetery $700 to help fix the statue.
Deputies say the damage has left them angry and disturbed.
The statue has been temporarily fixed.
Cemetery officials are looking into options for a permanent solution.
If they have to replace the statue it could cost $7,000.
