Vice President Joe Biden Makes Campaign Stop in Portsmouth, Ohio

Updated: Mon 9:51 AM, Sep 10, 2012

PORTSMOUTH, Oh. (WSAZ) -- The battle for the White House took center stage in a battleground state with Vice President Joe Biden getting fired up as campaign season heats up.

"America's not in decline, America is coming back, we're not going back, we're going forward and it's because of you," Vice President Joe Biden said.

The Vice President was in Ohio this past weekend for a slew of campaign stops as part of a two-day swing. Sunday morning, he was in Portsmouth.

"The president and I have a different way forward," Joe Biden said. "We know the way to create jobs is the old fashioned way -- from the middle out, not from the top down."

With two sides and two visions on how to create an economy built to last, Biden tried to rally support for the president by focusing on the middle class.

"Two thousand bucks a year makes a difference," Biden said. "It's about whether you can pay your automobile insurance, it's about whether or not you can keep your kid in school, it's about what you eat for dinner. $2,000 matter to average Americans."

Biden explained the democrat's plan for America to create more jobs in the United States and build a stable economy.

More than 100 showed up at Portsmouth High School as Biden laid out what democrats say is at stake for the middle class in this election.

"We see a future and Barak and I have committed this to our core," Biden said. "Where our granddaughters and daughters have every single, solitary opportunity our grandsons and daughters have every single one. Where we're number one in the world again in college graduates, where social security is protected, medicare is guarrenteed, where we promote the private sector, not the privileged sector."

The vice president criticized Republican Presidential candidate Mitt Romney, saying he was in favor of outsourcing jobs to foreign countries instead of creating new jobs here at home.

Many of people who showed up at the rally are taking hold of that message.

"It's really hard for things to get overturned once they have been enacted into law so they should really pay close attention to this," spectator Carla Daniels said. "Because it may affect their grandparents, their family, lives are truly going to be changed."

Biden encouraged and applauded Americans for staying strong through the recession.

Dueling for support in Ohio, Republican hopeful Mitt Romney will be speaking at a campaign rally Monday afternoon in Mansfield.

Romney is trying to sway a handful of undecided voter during this two-month sprint to election day.

No Republican has won the presidency without winning Ohio.
