WV Medicaid Expansion A Relief for Thousands

HAMLIN, WVa. (WSAZ) --- Jane Stevens, is back from the doctor's
office, on this Thursday afternoon, but she didn't go in.

"I don't have health insurance," Stevens said. "It makes it hard
to decide between groceries and going to the doctors."

Jane was there waiting to pick up her mom. Instead of waiting
in the parking lot, she tagged along with WSAZ to the local
library learn more about Governor Earl Ray Tomblin's announcement
the state is expanding Medicaid coverage to more than 90,000
additional West Virginians.

"I tried to get help before and just couldn't afford it," Stevens said.
"I've heard the rumors and thought there was just no way."

At first glance, it looks like Jane, who works 40 hours a week in
the service industry, will now qualify under revised guidelines.

"Yay, I can't believe it." Jane said. "Where do I sign up?"

DHHR offices around WV are preparing for the flood of inquiries.
Qualifying residents will now be able to sign up after October 1, 2013
for benefits that would kick-in after January 1, 2014.
