MORGANTOWN, W.Va. (AP) -- Work is beginning on a nearly $40 million construction project at West Virginia University.

Officials broke ground Wednesday for the College of Physical Activity and Sport Sciences, or CPASS, and a Student Health and Wellness facility. Construction should be finished by spring 2014.

President Jim Clements says it's a big step toward making WVU a healthier campus.

The college will be 73,000 square feet and include eight classrooms, an athletic training room and lab, a fitness room and a computer lab.

The Student Health and Wellness center will be almost 51,000 square feet and will also house the Carruth Center for Psychological and Psychiatric Services. It will have 23 exam rooms and a pharmacy.

The buildings are near the Student Recreation Center and part of a $250 million construction plan.
