CHARLESTON, W.Va. (AP) -- There's good news for state employees hoping to get an early start on their Christmas break.

Gov. Earl Ray Tomblin says public employees will get a full day off on Monday, Dec. 24, meaning they'll have a four-day holiday weekend.

State rules require public employees to have Monday afternoon off when Christmas occurs on a Tuesday.

The governor's proclamation means the workers will get a full day off on Dec. 24.

Local governments, private businesses and public employees who may be called to work to safeguard residents' health and safety are unaffected by the move.
