CHARLESTON, W.Va. (AP) -- The South Central Regional Jail is on notice to clean up its act.
Acting Regional Jail Authority executive director Joe DeLong says he's not going to allow inmates to trash the jail.
DeLong tells the Associated Press that he saw food on the walls, graffiti on the cell bars, and a dirty lobby and parking lot when he visited the jail in February.
He ordered the South Central administrator to bring the facility up to the same standards as the other regional jails.
The jail was put on lockdown recently when DeLong visited again. Inmates were told clean each pod's common areas.
DeLong says the jail is now visited every week by someone from the authority's central office. He calls the cleanup effort "a work in progress."
