KANAWHA COUNTY, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- Some neighbors in eastern Kanawha County had some concerns Thursday morning after the creek in their community was running black.

A spokesperson with the Department of Environmental Protection tells WSAZ.com Coyote Coal was draining a sediment pond in the Campbells Creek. Some workers left the pump unattended overnight and it began pumping sediment into the creek.

The company caught the mistake Thursday morning and called the DEP inspectors to check everything out.

Kathy Cosco with the DEP says the accident, isn't putting anyone at risk.

Coyote Coal, which is owned by Patriot Coal, was issued a violation by the DEP for the incident, according to Cosco.

Cosco says the creek is beginning to clear and should return to normal soon.
