UPDATE 1/8/13 @ 10:30 a.m.
CHARLESTON, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- Crews have fixed a water leak that caused icy conditions and accidents along Greenbrier Street Monday night.

During the leak, Greenbrier Street in the area of of Airport Road and Hemingway Subdivision looked more like an ice rink, than a road. The icy conditions are blamed for four accidents in the area, according to Metro 911.

A spokesperson with West Virginia American Water tells WSAZ.com the company did receive complaints about a possible leak in the area. Laura Jordan says crews responded to the area Monday morning and Monday afternoon to investigate the complaints to determine if the leak was associated with one its water lines.

The problem wasn't identified and fixed until Monday night after the accidents took place.

Although one car ended up on its side, none of the accidents Monday resulted in life-threatening injuries. One person was taken to the hospital after he was cut from one of the vehicles.

Jordan says a crew worked through the night to repair the line and treat the road.

Greenbrier Street was closed until early Tuesday morning to allow the repairs to be made.
