KENOVA, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- An 18-year-old girl, a case of beer and some harsh allegations fueled a case in Wayne County Magistrate Court Wednesday.
The 18-year-old says two men -- cousins Rudy and Victor Marroquin -- covered her mouth and pushed her into a motel room over the weekend, then two others -- Arana Neftali and Henry Beletzuy -- took turns raping her.
She testified that, during the hours leading up to the alleged rape, she and her boyfriend smoked cigarettes with the four men. She said they gave her two beers, and she drank one and a half of them. The teenager said her boyfriend walked inside to use the bathroom, and that's when the men "had their way" with her.
This case took an interesting turn when investigating officers realized three of the four men didn't speak English. Interpreters had to be brought in, at the State Supreme Court's cost, according to Wayne County Magistrate Randy Wiles.
The four men are Guatemalan natives. Rudy and Victor Marroquin both have legal status in the U.S. Rudy Marroquin has lived here 12 years, has a family and owns a home in Columbus.
His cousin Victor Marroquin is in the country on a work visa. Rudy Marroquin runs a construction business; that's why they were in town.
Wiles told WSAZ.com Wednesday to his knowledge the other two men, Neftali and Beletzuy, have no legal status in America.
Investigating officers from Kenova say the victim was taken to the hospital where a rape kit was performed. They say blood was found in her underwear and vaginal tearing was detected.
Wednesday's case was a preliminary for the Marroquin cousins. It was bound over to the grand jury.
Neftali and Beletzuy will have their preliminary hearing at 10 a.m. Thursday.
