ATHENS, Ohio (WSAZ) -- Losing the ability to move your legs sounds devastating, but it doesn't stop some people from getting their athletic fix.
Saturday Ohio University physical therapy students hosted the fourth Four-Play! Quad Rugby Tournament.
People donated money for a chance to compete against the Columbus Buckeye Blitz, a semi-pro quadriplegic wheelchair rugby team.
Organizers say it's all about giving people a new view on diversity while raising money for a good cause.
"Some of these guys were athletes before they had whatever injury that caused them to be quadriplegic,” tournament co-director Tara Cain said, “so a lot of them have been very athletic throughout their lives. Having this as something to do, it makes you a lot more positive."
Brett Harbage broke his back in a four-wheeler accident 17 years ago. He can't walk any more, but he says it's crucial to stay active.
“It's a huge benefit both physically and mentally,” he said. “Being around guys that are in similar situations helps you get through things."
Harbage is now part of the Buckeye Blitz. The team competes in tournaments around the country.
"This has kind of filled a void in my life,” he said. “It's definitely helped out."
Organizers say they raised more than 4 thousand dollars.
Money raised goes toward the team's travel expenses and a new wheelchair.
