Woman Charged with Lying to get Holiday Help

BOONE COUNTY, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- A woman from Boone County has been charged with fraudulent schemes after deputies say she lied to get donations.

Deputies tell WSAZ.com, Elizabeth Hampton told people she had three children and wasn't able to get food or presents for Christmas for them.

The story spread around the area and food bank and courthouse workers collected food, toys and clothes for Hampton.

When the donations were delivered to Hampton at a home in Uneeda it was discovered she didn't have any children at all.

She was arrested Wednesday evening and is in the Southwestern Regional Jail.
