NEW INFO: Woman Hit and Killed by Train; Name Released

FAYETTE COUNTY, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- We now know the name of a woman who was hit and killed by a train in Fayette County.

The National Park Service says Chandra Turner was walking along the tracks in the New River Gorge on Monday.

The engineer tried to stop and sounded the horn, but Turner was not able to get out of the way. Investigators say Turner's head was covered by a blanket to protect herself from the rain.

Turner was 49-years-old and from Louisville, Ky.

FAYETTE COUNTY, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- A woman is dead after she was hit by a train in Fayette County.

The National Park Service says the woman was walking along the tracks in the New River Gorge Monday evening during a heavy downpour.

Investigators say her head was covered by a blanket to protect herself from the rain.

The engineer tried to stop the train and sounded its horn, but the woman was not able to get out of the way.

Investigators say the woman was about 50 years old and homeless.

She has not been identified at this time.
