UPDATE 2/19/13 @ 5 p.m.
LAWRENCE COUNTY, Ohio (WSAZ) -- Joyce McClellan doesn't have the words to explain what's going through her heart right now.

“It's just hard to describe,” McClellan said.

McClellan's brother, Delmar Jenkins, is dead. The woman who pulled the trigger, Ashley Seagraves, is headed to prison.

“I hope she does spend the rest of her life in jail and that she's never eligible for parole,” McClellan said.

Tuesday, Judge Charles Cooper sentenced Seagraves to life in prison, with a chance of parole after 23 years. She entered a guilty plea to murder and robbery charges, after shooting and killing Jenkins in his sleep, and stealing his prescription painkillers.

“Pretty cowardly of her to shoot a man in his dead sleep,” McClellan said. “If she wanted his stuff, whatever he had in the box, I don't know... She should've just took it and left it alone.”

Seagraves also admitted to assaulting a guard at the jail shortly after being arrested. She was seven months pregnant, and hooked on pills.

“I am very sorry for the Jenkins family, for their loss and the pain they've went through,” Seagraves said in court. “And I'm sorry for my family and the pain they've had to go through.”

Prosecuting Attorney Brigham Anderson says this was a bizarre case because of the circumstances. But it's part of an all-too-common problem.

“It's a bad epidemic in our community,” Anderson said. “It can lead to various things; death, murder, incarceration, sickness, illness. It just plagues our community.”

Jenkins sister says she hopes some good will come out of her brother's death:

“Get into the drug thing and it's just a bad situation all the way around,” McClellan said.

A lesson she hopes folks learn, about the dangers of drugs.

UPDATE 6/11/12 @ 6 p.m.
IRONTON, Ohio (WSAZ) -- We've heard shocking stories about addicted pregnant women who choose drugs over their unborn children. On Sunday, a woman who police say fits that general description was booked into jail on murder charges.

Joyce McClellan says it was only a few times that she saw murder suspect Ashley Seagraves over at her brother Delmar Jenkins Rock Hill, Ohio home.

Detectives say a witness saw the 23-year-old pregnant woman flee that home about 5:30 Sunday morning.

Five hours later, a relative sleeping in the same trailer awoke and called 911 to say the 53-year-old Jenkins was shot.

“He tried to crawl out of his bedroom and down the hall to get help," said McClellan. "But he didn't make it.”

Hospitalized in critical condition, Jenkins was taken off life support early Monday morning. Detectives say Seagraves, who was later found at her Ironton home, confessed to shooting Jenkins.

But, the overwhelming question is why?

Detectives say both have had brushes with the law. They say Seagraves admits she's drug dependant, and Jenkins' family says he was also no stranger to prescription pills.

“I think that's what it’s all about,” said McClellan.

Lawrence County Sheriff’s Dept. Detective Aaron Bollinger wouldn't say much.

“She was a friend. She had stated that Mr. Jenkins was good to her, and she had stayed there from time to time overnight," said Bollinger.

Ashley Seagraves faces only murder charges and is jailed on a quarter-million dollar bond. Detectives say Seagraves said she is more than seven months pregnant.

She may give birth behind bars.
