ATHENS COUNTY, Ohio (WSAZ) -- Three juveniles have been arrested and charged with the theft of laptops and iPads from the Athens Meigs Educational Service Center, housed in the former Chauncey Elementary School.
Sheriff Patrick Kelly says a deputy was at a residence in Chauncey on an unrelated case when he noticed five batteries for a laptop computer.
When asked about the batteries, Sheriff Kelly says no one at the residence seemed to know where they came from.
After getting permission to search the residence, the Sheriff says the deputy found a bag containing five laptop computers stolen from the school.
During questioning, a 12-year-old boy confessed that he and two other boys, ages 13 and 15, broke into the school through an unlocked window and took a number of items.
Kelly says the 12-year-old also told investigators that he was selling the electronic equipment on eBay.
The three juveniles were charged and released to their parents.
