UPDATE 3/20/14 @ 6:20 p.m.
HUNTINGTON, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- Thursday morning, neighbors on Highlawn Ave. in Huntington, were awakened by a loud bang. A distraction device was thrown into home along that street before officers went in and found thousands of dollars in drugs.

"I told my son, you know they're busting the house next door? And he said yeah, he said, when I got here this morning, it sounded like gun shots. He said it just really startled him," said Deborah Eidson, whose son lives on Highlawn Ave.

Cabell County Sheriff Tom McComas said $20,000 worth of heroin was found in the home, plus $1,000 in cash.

Anthony Cooper, 39, was arrested and charged with possession with intent to distribute a controlled substance.

"The search warrant and arrest warrant was executed without incident this morning," explained McComas. "We like to let people know what was going on so that they're not fearful that something else had taken place."

Heroin is gaining ground in the area as a cheap alternative to prescription pills, McComas says. And it's a trend he says is leading to more overdoses and crime. Something they're trying to get it under control as quickly as possible.

"We have to garner enough evidence to obtain warrants and so forth with individuals and we would like it to happen a lot quicker than it does at times as well," McComas said.

Investigators say they are still looking into this case to determine if more charges will be filed and more arrests will be made.
