It's not thunder echoing through the hills of Eastern Cabell County; that sound is hammers!
Dozens of volunteers are helping the congregation of Susannah Missionary Baptist Church. The members are building a new 12 thousand square foot church from the ground up.
Johnye Horton is a volunteer with Central Alabama Christian Builders.
The members of the group travel the country, on their own dime, to help congregations build churches. Mr Horton says it isn't a construction job, it's a mission. ""There's no way you could put this together in the secular world and have it work work. You couldn't get them together and work this way. But there's a lot of people who know about building and they fall right in and do what needs to be done."
Eddie Dillon has been going to the Susannah Church since he was a kid. He says, "Instead of going to the beach, on their vacation, they're coming up here to build a church, that's pretty heartfelt I believe."
The goal is to have the church shingled by next week. A group effort that includes more volunteers on their way from South Carolina over the weekend.
