HUNTINGTON, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- It has been more than two years since the space that TLK Group will call home on 3rd Avenue in downtown Huntington has been used.
"It's ready made," said Jeremy Criss with TLK Group, who also happens to be a Huntington resident. "The tenant that was here before left the equipment in great shape."
The goal is to have 125 to 200 workers in place and taking incoming calls from a Fortune 100 Internet and cable company by Oct. 14.
The jobs will pay anywhere from $25,000 to $100,000. Criss said people who are looking for careers, not jobs, should apply.
"Obviously when you are coming in and you are making an hourly wage, it's a starting point," Criss said. "But I am living proof you can start out at an entry level position and get advancements and get promotions."
Criss started doing this type of work when he was in college at Marshall University.
He says it is a career that coal miners who face an uncertain future can transition toward.
"I come from a long line of a coal miners," Criss said. "This is an industry they can definitely look at getting into; there is area for advancement."
"TLK Group is doing a great job of providing those opportunities here in Huntington and hopefully we can continue to grow, not only here in Huntington but also in the state of West Virginia, to provide more diversity within the state."
There is also a residual effect.
Criss said since the news broke that the company planned to make a home in Huntington, vendors have been stopping by.
Larry Hawkins, who is with Mountain Vending Incorporated, didn't miss a beat.
"We do vending service, and they need vending machines and they have vending machines that need filled," Hawkins said. "And so we've got a great opportunity. Met the manager just now, and he is a wonderful person."
TLK Group is a company that handles inbound and outbound calls.
The call center that will be located in Huntington will only handle incoming calls, according to Paul Link, a managing partner with TLK. According to Link, the calls are for a Fortune 100 Company.
The goal is for the center to open in Huntington by Oct. 14 with 150 to 200 jobs. In a year's time, the goal is to have 500 jobs.
According to Link, the jobs will range in hourly and salary wages from $25,000 to $100,000 per year.
The call center will be located at 1102 3rd Ave. in Huntington.
You can find out more about the jobs at a fair next Tuesday (Oct. 1) and Wednesday (Oct. 2) at the Hampton Inn in Kinetic Park. It runs from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. those days.
