CABELL COUNTY, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- Quick action helps a family escape a fire that severely damaged their home near Barboursville late Monday night.
Firefighters were called to the 500-block of Fairwood Road in the East Pea Ridge area about 11 p.m.
The homeowner told WSAZ.com he heard a crackling sound coming from his kitchen, and it was quickly in flames. He was able to get his wife and son to safety through a bedroom window.
As a precaution, the wife was taken to St. Mary's Medical Center for smoke inhalation. The family dog died in the fire.
The flames were intense enough that dispatchers were receiving calls from motorists on Interstate 64.
The homeowner said he believes the fire was electrical in origin.
Crews from Barboursville, Ohio River Road and Green Valley fire departments were at the scene.

Flames were showing when firefighters arrived. Everyone managed to make it out safely, but a family dog was said to still be inside.
