UPDATE: Man Indicted in 2013 Huntington Murder

UPDATE 4/18/14 @ 2:10 p.m.
HUNTINGTON, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- A murder suspect has been indicted in Cabell County.

A grand jury indicted James Lee Johnson, of Huntington, on one count of murder.

Police say he shot Robert Crutcher, 44, on Dec. 17, 2013.

The shooting happened on 27th Street in Huntington, just after 5 p.m.

Crutcher was shot in the upper body. He died at the hospital a short time after the shooting.

Investigators say it appears Crutcher, Johnson and several other men were in an upstairs bedroom at Crutcher’s home when an argument occurred.

Police say Crutcher stepped in to tell Johnson to leave. That's when they say Johnson pulled out a pistol and shot Crutcher. The other men, including Crutcher’s son, then wrestled the gun from Johnson before he fled the house.

There's no word when Johnson will be arraigned.

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- A shooting victim has died, and a man from Michigan is now charged with murder.

The shooting happened at 36 27th Street in Huntington just after 5 p.m. Tuesday.

Huntington Police say Robert Crutcher, 44, was shot in the upper body and died at St. Mary's Medical Center a short time after the shooting.

Police have charged James Lee Johnson, 25, of Detroit, with Crutcher’s murder.

Investigators say it appears Crutcher, Johnson and several other men were in an upstairs bedroom at Crutcher’s home when an argument occurred.

Police say Crutcher stepped in to tell Johnson to leave. That's when they say Johnson pulled out a pistol and shot Crutcher. The other men, including Crutcher’s son, then wrestled the gun from Johnson before he fled the house.

A short time later, police say Johnson turned up at Cabell Huntington Hospital for treatment of a head injury.

Johnson was arrested when he was released from the hospital.

He was then taken to Cabell County Magistrate Court where he was arraigned on the murder charge.

Johnson is also wanted out of Michigan on a separate weapons charge.

He is being held in the Western Regional Jail.

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- Huntington Police say a man was seriously injured in a shooting early Tuesday evening.

Huntington Police Lt. John Williams says a man was shot in torso around 5 p.m. Tuesday on 27th Street.

Huntington police say the shooting happened during a fight with another man. Police officers are talking to witnesses for more information about the suspected shooter.

So far no arrests have been made. Police are not releasing the victim's name right now, but his injuries are described as serious.
