HUNTINGTON, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- Three people were shot Wednesday night when a man opened fire in an apartment in Huntington.

The shooting happened in the1700-block of Jefferson Avenue about 7:40 p.m.

Huntington Police Department Chief Skip Holbrook tells WSAZ.com. that three adults were wounded. Their injuries are not considered to be life threatening.

The victims are a married couple and a cousin, according to a family member.

The Chief said that six adults, as well as the three young kids under age 5 were in the first floor apartment any when the gunman opened fire.

"It's pretty crazy,” Mark Fry, who lives across the street, said. “I haven't seen anything like this happen on the block in a while. We might have to move. I can't stay around stuff like this."

"I think it's time to move,” neighbor Kelly Stapleton said. “The cops have been pretty heavy down here, and everybody wonders why. Maybe this is the reason why. There's so much traffic in some of these houses. It's just ridiculous."

The suspect remains on the run. There was no information about a possible motive.

Child Protective Services was notified, but the three kids were taken by a family member.
