HUNTINGTON, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- A Huntington man is facing multiple charges after fleeing from police officers, ramming his pick up into a police cruiser and then crashing into another vehicle.
Huntington Police arrested and charged Nicholas Turley, 24, of Huntington with attempting to commit malicious wounding of a police officer, fleeing while DUI, hit and run, receiving and transferring a stolen vehicle, possession of a controlled substance, driving on a suspended license,obstructing and two other misdemeanors.
Police say the incident began about 7:45 pm Wednesday when an officer tried to pull over Turley in the 1900-block of 8th Avenue for not having an inspection sticker.
Instead of stopping, the criminal complaint says Turley took off. Police say he finally stopped in the 1000-block of 8-and-a-half alley. At that point the officer said Turley put his pickup in reverse and backed into the police cruiser.
Turley then drove down the alley where he ended up crashing into another pickup that was traveling south on 8th Street near 8th Avenue.
Police say Turley then took off on foot. He was arrested about a block away. The criminal complaint says he told the officers he had taken a Loritab and smoked two joints of marijuana before driving.
The person driving the other truck was injured and taken to the hospital.
Police say the pickup Turley was driving had been stolen from a used car dealer in Huntington last month.
Turley is being held in the Western Regional Jail.
It happened about 7:45 p.m. Wednesday. Police said the HPD officer turned on his lights to flag the male driver down.
Officers say the driver put his truck in reverse and rammed the cruiser. But when he tried to take off, he hit another truck in a T-bone type of collision.
Police tell WSAZ.com the truck involved in the crash was stolen.
The person driving the other truck was taken to the hospital.
The driver of the stolen truck was arrested, but his name has not been released. Police say he tried to run from the scene.
