UPDATE: 2011 Huntington Shooting Suspect Says No to Plea Deal

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- To the surprise of his own attorney, one man said no deal to a plea agreement offered by prosecutors.

Cortland Wilmont, 33, faces malicious wounding and drug charges in connection to a shooting that happened in Huntington almost two years ago.

Wilmont was back in Cabell County Circuit Court Tuesday morning for what was expected to be a plea hearing.

The incident happened at a home in the 1200 block of 25th Street in February 2011. Police say Wilmont and two other people went to the home to confront two men inside about money.

The dispute took a violent turn, with one man shot in the leg and another man hit in the head.

Wilmont was arraigned on the charge in February. Up until that time he had been in jail in Detroit on unrelated charges.

During Tuesday’s hearing, Wilmont requested a suppression hearing. That hearing is now set for August 1.

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- A Huntington man was arraigned Wednesday in connection with a shooting that happened at a home along 25th Street in October 2011.

Cortland Wilmont, 33, is charged with malicious wounding.

The incident happened at a home in the 1200 block of 25th Street. Police say three people went to the home to confront two men inside about money.

The dispute took a violent turn, with one man shot in the leg and another man hit in the head.

Wilmont has been in jail in Detroit on unrelated charges and was just returned to Huntington.

He was taken to the Western Regional Jail; his bond was set at $100,000 cash only.

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- Huntington Police say that an early morning shooting Friday was the result of a dispute over money.

The incident happened at 1215 25th Street just after 4 a.m.

Two people were rushed to hospital, one with a gunshot wound to the hip, the other with head injury.

Police say that the Joshua Ellis, 32, of Huntington, was the person shot. Jason Wells, 32, of Ashland, Ky., suffered the head injury.

Huntington Police told our crew at the scene, the incident began when the victims opened the door because they knew the three men who had come to the door.

HPD says an argument then broke out over money and Ellis was shot, and Wells hit in the head.

Huntington police say they are still looking for three suspects.

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- Two people were rushed to hospital following a home invasion and shooting in Huntington.

It happened in the 1200 block of 25th street about 4:15 a.m. Friday

Huntington Police told our crew at the scene, the incident began when the victims opened the door because they knew the three men at the door.

HPD says an argument broke out, and one man inside the house was shot in the upper leg, a second man was beat with by an object swung by one of the suspects.

Huntington police say they are looking for three suspects.
