ORIGINAL STORY 1/24/12
HUNTINGTON, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- A Huntington mother has been indicted in connection with the death of her 10-month-old son.

According to court documents, Cierra Jordan, of Huntington, has been charged with child neglect causing death.

Back in January 2011, a medical call came out from Jordan's residence involving her 10-month-old son. According to Huntington Police, the child was pronounced dead at the hospital.

Detective Ryan Bentley with the Huntington Police Department tells WSAZ.com that you have to be cautious when dealing with a case like this, because you have to be sure of the cause of death. Bentley says detectives waited for the results from the medical examiners office and presented the information to the grand jury when he received the report.

According to Bentley, the medical examiners report concluded that the child died from starvation and dehydration.

Jordan was indicted by a Cabell County Grand Jury earlier this month. She was arraigned on the charges Tuesday morning.

A $50,000 bond was set for Jordan. She posted the bond at the arraignment.

Jordan is scheduled to be back in court at 1:30 p.m. March 8.

No charges had been filed against Jordan prior to the direct indictment because detectives were waiting on the medical examiners report.
