HUNTINGTON, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- Students in Cabell County will head back to school earlier than most districts. August 6th is the first day of school.
As a last summer hurrah, the community of Grace United Methodist Church hosted a back to school bash, Saturday.
The rainy weather didn't deter kids from splashing around on the inflatable water slides, getting free haircuts and having a good time.
Every child that attended the party was sent home with a free backpack full of school supplies to help prepare them for the quickly approaching first day of class.
Church members say this is something they hope children will remember and take with them.
"We just want to show the love of God to everyone in our community and around, and this is a great way to do it and introduce them and show love to them and to show that we care," Aimee Nelson, a church member, said.
The annual event was free and open to the public.
