HUNTINGTON, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- Plans for a citywide trail for bikers and pedestrians moved forward Monday night when Huntington City Council approved an architectural design study of a bridge over Hal Greer Boulevard near Cabell Huntington Hospital.

The bridge will be part of the eventual Paul Ambrose Trail for Health project named in honor of the late physician -- a Huntington native who died in the terrorist attacks on Sept. 11, 2001.

All told, Phase II of the project, which includes elevated bridges near Cabell Huntington Hospital and Spring Hill Cemetery, is expected to cost about $2.2 million.

The entire project, which eventually will span the entire length of the city, will cost about $3.8 million, according to Charles Holley, director of development and planning for the city of Huntington.

Most of that money will come from state funds, Holley said.

The winning bidder for the architectural design study of the bridge over Hal Greer Boulevard is Edward Tucker Architects Inc. of Huntington. That study will cost about $70,000.
