HUNTINGTON, W.Va.(WSAZ) -- Demolition of the Northcott Court housing project along Hal Greer Boulevard will soon get underway.

At Monday's Huntington City Council meeting, Mayor Steve Williams announced the Huntington Housing Authority received approval from HUD to begin the project. This clears the way for a major redevelopment project in the Fairfield West community.

It will involve new housing for neighbors who live in Northcott, as well as commercial development where the housing project now stands.

"There is change coming into the area," Williams said. "We are changing the face of the entrance into downtown Huntington."

Officials say the Housing Authority will help people who live at Northcott find new places to live.

There is no word yet on when that demolition will begin.
