HUNTINGTON, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- A Detroit man who illegally sold thousands of prescription painkillers in and around Huntington has been sentenced to more than 15 years in federal prison.
Robert Louis Smith, 40, was sentenced Monday in U.S District Court in Huntington.
In February, Smith pleaded guilty to distribution of oxycodone.
“Every time we put a law-breaking pill dealer out of business, it’s a big step toward getting this problem under control,” U.S. Attorney Booth Goodwin said. “I hope this conviction sends a clear message: There are consequences when you peddle poison in our communities."
Smith was arrested in March 2010 after prosecutors say he sold nearly 500 Oxycodone pills to a confidential police informant at a restaurant parking lot along Hal Greer Boulevard in Huntington.
During Monday’s sentencing, the Court found that Smith had sold 11,820 Oxycodone tablets in the Huntington area between June 2009 and March 2010.
