UPDATE: Detroit Man Pleads Guilty to Federal Drug Charges

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- A Detroit man pleaded guilty in federal court to heroin possession Monday.

According to a release from U.S. Attorney Booth Goodwin, Gerald L. Height, also known as “Tim Lewis,” 37, of Detroit, pleaded guilty to possession with intent to distribute heroin.

On March 12, law enforcement agents with the Huntington Violent Crime and Drug Task Force observed Height enter a vehicle at the Greyhound bus station in Huntington. Investigators were conducting surveillance at the Greyhound location at the time. Officers performed a traffic stop on the vehicle and a Huntington Police Department K-9 gave a positive indication of the presence of drugs. Officers discovered a total of 62 bags of heroin with a weight of 35.5 grams in the Height’s suitcase.

Height admitted to possessing the heroin for distribution.

Height faces up to 20 years in prison and a $1 million fine when he is sentenced on December 10, by United States District Judge Robert C. Chambers.

The Huntington Violent Crime and Drug Task Force, the Huntington Police Department and the Barboursville Police Department conducted the investigation. Assistant United States Attorney Gregory McVey is in charge of the prosecution.

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- A man from Detroit has been arrested on drug charges a short time after apparently getting off a bus in Huntington.

According to the criminal complaint, on Monday members of the Huntington Violent Crime and Drug Task Force were conducting surveillance at the bus station when they observed a man carrying a suitcase to a car.

Officers then followed that car, and ended up stopping it after they say the driver ran a red light.

Officers say during a search of the car they found 62 bags of a tan substance that later tested positive for heroin. They said the heroin was wrapped in a pair of jeans in the suitcase. They also say the found several bags of marijuana in a jacket pocket.

Task Force members later charged Gerald Height, 36, of Detroit with two counts of possession with intent to deliver.

Height is being held in the Western Regional Jail.
