Food Bank Distributes Fresh Produce in Ashland
ASHLAND, Ky. (WSAZ) -- It is not uncommon to see fresh fruits and vegetable being sold at roadside stands, but what is uncommon is when it is free.
On Wednesday the Huntington Area Food Bank was in Ashland, Ky. handing out fresh produce to local agencies to help people still in need after last week's extreme temperatures and power outages.
Operations Director Ryan Slater tells WSAZ.com that a little more than 15,000 pounds of produce was given out Wednesday.
Slater says more than 215,000 pounds of food has been given out in 17 counties throughout the tri-state because of the devastating storm on June 29.
“People come up, we get hugs all the time; God bless you, pats on the back. It's a hard job at times, you see the palates we're pushing around but it's rewarding," Slater said.
Another load of food will be delivered next month.
