HUNTINGTON, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- The Huntington Police Department reports it has received a couple of phone calls from concerned residents about phone solicitations to raise funds for the department.

According to an HPD news release, the department does not use phone solicitations to raise money. It reports that its fraternal order, FOP Gold Star Lodge 65, also does not use phone solicitations.

Anyone who receives a call asking to give money should check to ensure it isn't a fraudulent scheme before making any donations. Anyone who is in doubt about the legitimacy of those seeking donations is asked to call HPD at either 304-696-4470 or 304-526-8585.
