HUNTINGTON, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- Heavy rain caused high water issues in some parts of our region Wednesday evening, catching some motorists by surprise.

Among the areas affected were on 5th Avenue near the Joan C. Edwards Stadium in Huntington and the city's 10th Street viaduct, which temporarily was closed because of high water.

High water also was reported in the East Pea Ridge area and parts of Barboursville, including on East Drive. Located off of East Pea Ridge Road, parts of East Drive quickly flooded -- leaving one woman stranded in her car. She managed to escape and rescue a child from the car.

Even small hail was reported with some of the storms.

WSAZ meteorologist Kelly Ann Cicalese said the storms responsible for the heavy rain were weakening Wednesday evening after losing their main energy source -- the sun.

No injuries were reported.
