Huntington Police Investigating Drive-by Shooting

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- Thunder and lightning -- they're two weather events that have become commonplace around here.

Early the morning of Friday, July 27, Marshall Crawford thought he heard them both again. It wasn't until the sun came up that he realized that it wasn't thunder and lightning -- it was bullets.

"Here's a bullet hole, right here" Crawford said as he showed the shattered glass on the front porch. "Everyone inside was pretty lucky it happened at the time of day it did."

Huntington Police investigators have gathered several casings outside the home in the 1000 block of 22nd Street. They've been set off for processing.

That early in the morning, witnesses have been tough to come by.

"It's going to to take someone to step forward," Huntington Police Detective Ryan Bentley said. "Somebody out there knows something; somebody knows who did it Any information would be greatly appreciated."

One of the bullets made it's way into the home, piercing a picture frame with the word "Friendship" inscribed on it.

"God was watching over us," Dorothy Mayo said. "I always say when I lay my head down at night and when I leave my home, I say 'Lord bless my home and all that's in it, and that's exactly what he did.' "
