HUNTINGTON, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- The Huntington Police Department has been awarded a state grant to buy an armored counter attack and rescue vehicle.
The LENCO Bearcat will be used by the department’s SWAT team.
The vehicle can carry up to 10 people and will be used during high-risk warrant service operation, situations involving mass casualties, and incidents involving hostage-rescue operations.
The $266,000 grant was awarded by the West Virginia Department of Military Affairs and Public Safety.
The total cost of the vehicle is $279,130, leaving the Police Department to cover the remaining $13,130.
Huntington City Council will vote on a resolution authorizing acceptance of the grant during its meeting Monday night.
