HUNTINGTON, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- A man from Huntington charged with robbing a med school student walking home from school, and stealing the purse of a 60-year-old woman in a grocery store parking lot has decided to keep his lawyer.

Duane Scott Maynard, 26, was back in court for a hearing Thursday morning.

Earlier this month during a hearing Cabell Circuit Court, Maynard said he wanted to change lawyers. It came on the day court officials had expected Maynard to accept a plea agreement in the case.

Maynard will now be back in court April 10 for a status hearing. There is no word if that plea deal is still on the table.

Maynard is charged with one count of 1st degree robbery and one count of second degree robbery.

In September 2013, Maynard rejected a proposed plea deal that would have sent him to jail for 40 years.
