HUNTINGTON, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- A man from Huntington has been indicted on charges of robbing a med school student walking home from school and stealing the purse of a 60-year-old woman in a grocery store parking lot.
Last week, a Cabell County Grand Jury indicted Duane Scott Maynard, 26, on one count of 1st degree robbery and one count of second degree robbery.
Huntington Police said on January 9, Maynard robbed the 24-year-old med school student while she was walking home from the Erma Byrd Clinical Center.
Police say the woman was attacked from behind, beaten in the face and head, and then robbed.
Then on June 13, police say Maynard stole a purse from a 60-year-old woman walking to her car in a grocery store parking lot.
Police say a witness chased Maynard and stabbed him in self defense, before Maynard was able to get away.
In September, Maynard rejected a proposed plea deal that would have sent him to jail for 40 years.
