Man Accused of Scrapping Ex-Girlfriend's Car Over Breakup

HUNTINGTON, WVa. (WSAZ) -- Eric Ross will tell you "love hurts". He's even facing jail time over it.

Ross is accused of taking his ex-girlfriend's car and having it scrapped for metal. Why?

"Paybacks are hell." Ross said. "She broke my heart. It's that simple."

A criminal complaint filed by the WV State Police claims Ross took his girlfriend's car on July 14th and had it crushed and scrapped at Empire Recycling in Huntington for $197.

The complaint put the value of the 2002 Chevrolet Malibu at $5,000. Ross tells WSAZ.com he had the car's title and signed it over, making up a bill of sale.

Ross then took a picture of the crushed car on his cellphone and sent it to a friend of his girlfriend's with the intention of her seeing it.

He's now facing a $1000 fine and up to 10 years in prison for a felony charge of destruction of property.

Was it worth it? Ross says it wasn't the smartest thing to do but love hurts.

"Love ain't easy," Ross says. "Yep, I still love her and she's knows I do."
